The biggest event of the year for European badminton – the European Championships 2018 came to an end last week. Organised in Huelva, Spain, this event presented lots of impressive games and eventually wrote new names in history. Today’s BWF world ranking list has important ranking position changes for the players who participated in the Europeans.
Women’s doubles champions Gabriela Stoeva/ Stefani Stoeva (Bulgaria) surely made history and according to today’s women’s doubles world ranking list, the sisters are back in top 10.
-The three days after the Europeans we still couldn’t believe what we had done in Huelva. Now we understand what we have achieved there and that we have made history for the Bulgarian badminton, Stefani tells Badminton Europe, adding
-It’s good to see that we are back in top 10. Our targets are now bigger after this title for sure. Now we will aim for top 5.
Singles winners rise
Quarterfinalist in European Championship, Rasmus Gemke (Denmark) climbed four spots up, currently occupying position no. 28 on the men’s singles world ranking list. It is a career-best result for the Dane.
Another quarterfinalist Lucas Corvee (France) can also celebrate his career-best ranking position as he climbed six spots up to occupy position no. 43. Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen, 2018 European bronze medalist, moved eight spots up to occupy position no. 52.
Women’s singles bronze medalist Mia Blichfeldt moved three spots up, reaching her career-best result – no. 17 on the women’s singles world ranking list. Her compatriot Line Kjaersfeldt, the other bronze medalist, climbed two spots occupying position no. 29. Silver medalist Evgeniya Kosetskaya (Russia) went three spots up, standing on position no. 22.
Changes for doubles
Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (Denmark) are back to top 10 on the men’s doubles world ranking list as they moved two spots up after winning the European gold medal. Quarterfinalists Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge (England) moved one spot up, occupying position no. 19. Bronze medalists Jelle Maas/Robin Tabeling (Netherlands) moved three spots up to occupy position no. 35.
Women’s doubles silver medalists Emilie Lefel/Anne Tran (France) climbed 9 spots to occupy position no. 24 on the women’s doubles world ranking list. Bronze medalists Maiken Fruergaard/Sara Thygesen (Denmark) are in top 20 as they went three spots up. The other semifinalists Selena Piek/Cheryl Seinen (Netherlands) moved eight positions up, currently standing on position no. 22.
Mixed doubles silver medalists Mathias Christiansen/Christinna Pedersen (Denmark) are world no. 7 according to this week’s world ranking list, three spots up compared to last week. Bronze medalists Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith (England) moved 11 spots up, currently world no. 15. The other semifinalists Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Herttrich (Germany) are following them on position no. 16.
