The three-times runner-up finally got her gold medal.

After losing three straight major finals Indian Pusarla V. Sindhu could finally celebrate. The Indian super star is the new women’s singles world champion.

The final in Basel was a rematch of the 2017 World Championship final, where Japanese Nozomi Okuhara won a thrilling match in Glasgow, Scotland, against Sindhu. Two years later it was not thrilling at all.

Dominating Sindhu
Sindhu dominated throughout the whole match and won 21-7 21-7 against Okuhara.

- It is a great moment for me, and I am really happy because I really wanted this win. Finally, I am the world champion, Sindhu said.

- I did not take any chances, and I did not made any easy mistakes. Even though I made mistakes I took the points back. It has been a great tournament for me. Everybody prepares for the World Championships, and so did I. Playing with Tai, Chen Yufei and Okuhara is totally different, so you need to think and be strategic.

Until today India had never won a gold medal at the World Championships. Now they have.
