For the first time ever Serbia made it to the European U17 Team Championships final.

Serbia has been one of the surprises in the team event in Poland, and Monday afternoon they made history qualifying for the final on Tuesday beating Ukraine.

Serbia took a 2-0 lead by winning the mixed doubles and the men’s singles. Ukraine got a point on the score board winning the women’s singles, but in the end there was no doubt that Serbia would make it to the final.

Sergej Lukic and Mihajlo Tomic have proved that they are two of the strongest assets in the Serbian line up, and against Ukraine they did not fail. Lukic and Tomic won their doubles in straight games, 21-13 21-8, against Volodymyr Koluzaiev/Vitaliy Reva.

A highlight
It is the first time in the history of badminton that Serbia makes it to the final.

- I am proud of our players, our coaches and of the atmosphere we have tried to create for years. The biggest strength of our team and association is that we are like a big family, Radomir Jovovic, President of Badminton Association of Serbia said.

- This is the highlight of what we created. This is one more step towards our goals. We have invested our life in this and this is the reward. It is the moment to say thank you to all the clubs, coaches, parents, and those young players and of course the state of Serbia, the ministry of youth and sports, he added.

In the final Serbia will be facing Denmark. The Danes beat the top seed, Russia, 3-0 in the semifinals.
