David Silva from Portugal won his first match at the 2019 European U17 Championships.

The individual events at the 2019 European U17 Championships kicked off on Tuesday with the first round. One of the first players on court was Portuguese David Silva in the men’s singles.

In the team event Silva lost a thrilling matchup against Noah Haase from the Netherlands. Haase won the decider 23-21 in one of the most intense matches in the team event.

In the individual event Silva faced another Dutch men’s singles, David van Dalm, in the opening match.

Win against the Netherlands
The Dutch won the first game 21-13 before Silva won the second (21-18) and the third game (21-15) securing a spot in the second round.

- I think it was a great match. I was very nervous before the match, but in the second game I just went all in. The match was more equal from there, Silva said.

- I lost in the team event, and when I started the match I was thinking “Oh, I cannot lose two times to the same country”, he added.

The next opponent in the men’s singles category for David Silva will be Erik Li from Finland.
