Doubling up in Denmark

It was finals day in Odense today where we witnessed three of the winners amazingly secure back-to-back Denmark Open titles.

Chinese Taipei’s superstar women's singles player Tai Tzu Ying doubled up on her Denmark Open titles with a commanding win over Nozomi Okuhara. The Japanese ace scored a great win against Spain's Carolina Marin in the semifinal, which went the distance, lasting an hour and fifteen minutes.

In contrast, Tai's semifinal was cut short due to Chen Yufei's injury. This subsequently may have played a role in the one sided performance ending 21-17, 21-14.

Nine times
In the all-Indonesian men's doubles final, it was also a one sided result, with world number ones Sukamuljo and Gideon once again beating the experienced world number twos Ahsan and Setiawan, 21-14, 21-13.

Despite world champions Ahsan and Setiawan being in perhaps the best form of their long careers, in their nine encounters in the last two years they cannot quite find a way to beat their compatriots.

Entertaining the crowds
For the men's singles, there was the mouth-watering prospect of a final between four-time Denmark Open winner and current Olympic champion Chen Long, taking on the world number one and world champion Kento Momota, who also was victorious in Odense last year.

The last two encounters between these two were very close indeed, however today Momota was the man in control of everything that was thrown at him, winning in two games, 21-14, 21-12. There was an interesting battle for the net, but ultimately it came down to consistency in the attack and errors that built up for Chen Long when lifting or driving to the back court.

Momota added to his impressive 2019 title haul with this being his ninth victory. When asked about his goals going forward after the final, he responded.

-I do not set any major goals for myself. I try to just go on court and entertain the crowds whenever I play.
