Emilie Sommer is a 19-year-old from Ringsted, Denmark who grew up with badminton as both of her parents play. Her Mother even playing at the All England Championships a few times. She began playing herself when she was 6 years old and has played ever since at Ringsted Badminton Club.

She went to high school in Roskilde where she studied business and travelled a lot due to the international line of her studied. Through this she then wanted to take a sabbatical year to work and travel some more. At that point she saw an opportunity to become an intern at Badminton Europe. Asked about this choice, she responded

- I saw the application and thought, why not work with something you love

- I applied for the internship because it sounded very interesting. Badminton has been such a big part of my life so I thought it could be fun to be behind the scenes and work with people who also like the sport and get to talk to players from all over the world

She has been working for Badminton Europe for about a month now and has been writing a lot of articles but also covered the DANISA Denmark Open in Odense. We asked her how it was.

- Well, it was so exciting. Of course, you get to see a lot of badminton while you work, but you also get to talk to the players which is totally different, and you get a completely different view of a lot of the players because you get more personal with them. You also get a little starstruck when some of the players you have been watching since I was a little girl suddenly just walk right beside you and you get to talk to them.

For now, the internship will last until 31st of March 2020.
