The first matches at the Indonesia Masters 2020 have been played, and the first Europeans are already through to the next round. 

Today at the Indonesia Masters, the qualification, as well as the mixed doubles were played. 

In the mixed doubles we have Alexandra Bøje and Mathias Christiansen from Denmark through to the second round. In today’s match they were facing Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet from Hong Kong China, a pair that are ranked at number 10 on the World Ranking. 

The match started out rather close, but after the break in the first game, the Danes took charge as well as the first game 21-14. The second game was closer, but Bøje and Christiansen were leading the whole time and ended up winning the second game 21-17, sending them through to the second round at the Super 500 tournament. 

Tomorrow they will be facing world number ones, Chinese pair Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong from China.

English mixed doubles do their job

Chris and Gabrielle Adcock were also on court today at the Indonesia Masters, where they were facing Japan’s Takuro Hoki and Wakana Nagahara. The first game was close and ended in the hands of the Japanese, but in the second game the English came back and sent the match into a third game. After a match that lasted over an hour, the English players could walk from court with 19-21 21-16 22-20 in their favour. 

Their countrymen, Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith, walked on court right after the Adcocks had won their match. They were playing the winners of the Syed Modi International 2019, Rodion Alimov and Alina Davletova. This match was controlled by Ellis and Smith, and the Russians were never really in control. The English won the match 21-17 21-10 and will face second seeded Wang Yi Lyu and Huang Dong Ping from China.

Selena Piek and Robin Tabeling had to withdraw from the Indonesia Masters 2020, as Piek had a high fever.

This is what she wrote on her Instagram.

- Feeling devastated as I had to withdraw from the Indonesia Masters due to high fever. Tried to do everything I could to be ready and play but that would have been a stupid decision… I will try to rest, recover and keep my head high for the Thailand Masters next week. Sorry.
