The team that has been setting the standard in the men’s event, Denmark, are looking set to complete a clean sweep in group one once again.

Today, Anders Antonsen was first up on court against Switzerland’s Christian Kirchmayr, in a repeat of their only previous encounter at the European Games. The result was similar, with the world number six winning 21-8, 21-14. After the match, Antonsen discussed how the Denmark team are approaching the group stages.

-Yes, it was good. I did what I was supposed to do. I think all of the players on our team are really professional and we know when to turn it on. We know that these first days are a little bit easy for us, but we know that there are some tough matches waiting for us. So, after today, I think we will switch up our game, because there are some strong teams to play ahead.

What stands out for the Danish men is the strength and depth of the men’s singles players. Commenting on this, Antonsen says.

-We have four good men’s singles players with us here. Rasmus Gemke is out through injury. But if one of us is struggling with something on the day, we always have a good substitute that can come in.
