Tan: I am not calling it yet

In the women’s group two, we see Belgium secure second spot in the group behind the number two seeds, Russia, after a solid singles performance against Iceland, lead by Lianne Tan.

Belgium have brought a youthful team across the border to France, many of which will be following the guidance of experienced campaigner, Tan, who had this to say after her 21-6, 21-10 win against Sigridur Arnadottir.

-We are here as a young team. Of course, I am a bit like the leader of the group, so I know that they expect me to win. We had a tough group with Russia, but I think it is good for the young players to get some experience here, as we have girls who are only 18 and 16 years of age. I hope it will help them a lot for their next tournaments.

The next women’s team event will be in two years’ time. When asked if we will see Lianne Tan, 29, still leading the way for Belgium then, she responded.

-I really do not know yet. I am not sure if I will quit after the Olympics. If I am able to train and continue to improve my game I would love to continue, so I am not calling it yet, but we will see after Tokyo.
