Players currently filling their time this week following the German Open cancellation, received a boost today after a promising statement from Badminton England reassuring everyone that the All England Open is due to go ahead next week.
One such player affected by the cancellation was home favourite doubles player, Marvin Seidel. He explains his emotions upon hearing the news.
- At first, we were shocked because it was very unexpected for all of us. Also, the fact that the City of Mülheim an der Ruhr decided to cancel it and not somebody who was in charge of the tournament, it was difficult to accept for some of us.
A very good time-filler
The German national team wasted no time in arranging a plan B for the week, as Seidel explains.
-The extra week is being used to train with the Chinese Taipei national team in Saarbrücken. It is just great to have such highly skilled players as your training partners and is actually a very good time-filler.
As a result, the cancellation brought both positive and negative effects. Players would have naturally wanted to play the tournament, but it builds character to make the best out of a situation that cannot be changed. Lastly, Seidel comments about his current status on the road to Olympic qualification.
-Right now, I feel quite comfortable as we managed to get a little gap between us and our compatriots. But in the end, there will always be this little fear of maybe not qualifying if certain things happen.
Seidel will now play the All England and Swiss Open in the next two weeks, and then also the Malaysia Open in around four weeks’ time.
