First ever online Board of Directors meeting in the history of BEC
The online board meeting held on Saturday 25th April 2020 was the first ever online Board meeting in the history of BEC. It was decided to continue with the online Board meetings for the time being due to the COVID-19 situation.
General
The Board discussed the status of coming events, the international calendar and the development projects and which effects these might have to the 2020-budget for Badminton Europe.
Report from the office
The Board was informed that on Wednesday 11th March 2020 the Danish Prime Minister spoke to the nation and locked down the country. She encouraged private businesses to let their employees work from home if possible. Due to lock down of the country and the possibility of receiving financial support from the Danish government 9 BEC staff were asked not to work and remain at home until 9th June. The staff were given thorough explanations for the decisions taken.
New employee at the Badminton Europe office
Justine Cammal from France will join the BEC office on 4th May as Development Officer. Welcome, Justine!
TV- and data rights
Badminton Europe is finalizing its important negotiations around TV- and data rights for the coming years. It is expected that an announcement can be made shortly.
BEC COVID-19 Member Survey
BEC has initiated a member survey around the difficulties that COVID-19 causes Member Associations. This member survey will be sent out to all Member Associations shortly with the intention to get more information how BEC can help during these difficult times.
Reopening of the Centre of Excellence
BEC and Holbæk Sportsbyen are currently exploring options about a potential reopening in regard to the possibility of starting smaller group trainings for the players at the Centre of Excellence in Holbæk, Denmark.
More online activities
At the online Board meeting was agreed to explore the opportunities of having more online activities via Microsoft Teams (or other video conference-programmes) to activate and engage interested Member Associations.
Strategic Plan 2021-2024 - drafts
Drafts of the Strategic Plan 2021-2024 and the correlating implementation plan were presented during the meeting, which were supposed to be presented and discussed at the BEC Members’ Forum in Bucharest. BEC will now consider next steps upon how and when to share with Member Associations and how to receive feedback on these plans.
Next Board duties
The Board discussed different possibilities of how and when to host the BEC Annual Delegates’ Meeting. It was agreed to wait for more information from BWF around their AGM, supposed to be held in Denmark, before making any decisions.
It was agreed to cancel the Board and Commission meetings planned for June and also the Board meeting planned for September. Instead the Board will have online meetings every second month for the time being.
