The 22-year-old Norwegian Emilie Hamang is new to the world of top-level badminton. Following the withdrawal of few players, she got an opportunity to play the women’s singles at the prestigious Super 750 Denmark Open tournament.
- I am really happy that I could play. It is a good opportunity to play a match against better players, who I do not meet in the usual tournaments.
Despite a tough matchup against Yaelle Hoyaux, she played an appreciable first game. However, the lack of experience at a high level showed as the match soon slipped away from her in the second 14-21, 7-21.
- I need to play more matches at this level. In the first set, I was playing good rallies and good badminton.
- In the second set, she was playing too fast. Since I usually do not play matches at that level, it was hard to keep up.
Future outlook
Hamang is determined to work towards becoming a better player.
- I will go back to Norway now. Hopefully, I can go to other countries and play, as well as train with better players.
- I am looking forward to representing my country in the upcoming European Mixed Team Championships Qualifications. That will perhaps be the only international tournament I will be playing this year.
Challenge for Hoyeux
The winner Hoyeux will have a tough battle against the home-favourite Mia Blichfeldt tomorrow.
