On Thursday, the European Junior Team Championships begin in Lahti, Finland, and the countries will walk on court to play their first team match.

The final preparations for the European Junior Championships are being made. All 17 teams have arrived safely and are now in isolation before everything starts. The team event will start on Thursday and end next Monday, where the new champions will be crowned.

Denmark, Russia, Serbia and France are the four top seeded teams. Both Denmark and Russia will be bringing several European U17 Champions and medalists from the 2019 edition who will fight for more medals and another title.

The winner of the 2017 and 2018 edition, France, will go for a treble this year while Russia and Serbia will go after their first ever team event title at the Juniors.

Enjoy the tournament

Badminton Europe’s General Secretary Brian Agerbak has been following the European Junior Championships since his first day in the office. This year it is something totally different as COVID-19 has had a big impact on everything.

- It has been a very difficult process, but I am pleased that we will finally be ready to play on Thursday.

- I hope that the players will enjoy the tournament in a time when playing competitive badminton is rather restricted. I am very grateful to the Finnish Badminton Federation and the Finnish Authorities for making this happen, said Brian Agerbak.
