Eat, power nap and get ready

Emotions were sky high for Denmark after winning the European Junior Team Championships yesterday with a spectacular 3-0 win against France. Simona Pilgaard tells us how you can come down from such a feeling and focus on the individual event.

This is the nature of the European Junior Championships, the matches in the team event can come thick and fast, you can be celebrating a terrific team win one moment, and then shortly after required to focus on your own personal goals.

-The adrenaline was high when we won. It was a big win for us. We had to just eat afterwards, get home and get some rest. Maybe a little power nap and then get ready again, she said.

Pilgaard faced Germany’s Antonia Schaller in the opening round and admitted she was not able to play her best from the start.

-In the beginning, I was a bit nervous because it’s the first round. When the play got going it was okay in the end.

Pilgaard was able to win 21-10, 21-8 in just 25 minutes of play. This morning, she faced Slovenia’s Lina Pipan, and emulated a quick victory, this time in 22 minutes, 21-12, 21-10. Things are off to a solid start for the tall Dane in the singles. However, having scored gold at the Polish Junior and Danish Cup in women’s doubles, which does she prefer?

-That’s a hard question. I don’t know. They are two very different games, but I love them both.

-I will relax and try to play my game and see how far I go, she ended.
