Badminton team events are entertaining spectacles which generate a unique kind of energy. Next week, we will get a flavour of what is to come. Read to find out what this is all about.

The EMTCQ stands for the European Mixed Team Championships Qualification. An event where we will see European nations form teams consisting of their best players in each of the five categories. Men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

The European Mixed Team Championships, which started in 1972, is played in February in uneven years. The event officially crowns the best national team in Europe.

The eight best teams in Europe will be competing to become European Champions from 16 to 20 February 2021 in Vantaa, Finland.

But first, we need to find out who makes the final eight!

Qualification
The qualification stage is played next week. Initially planned for six groups held in different locations around Europe, due to COVID-19 restrictions, only four groups will be played. Group 1 in England, Group 2 in Belgium, Group 3 in Austria and Group 6 in Portugal.

The winners from each qualification group will join the reigning Champions Denmark and hosts Finland at the final stage. Finland has recently demonstrated that they were able to safely organise the 11-day European Junior Championships, which includes a team and individual event.

To achieve this despite the many tournament cancellations and challenges around the global pandemic was noted by Badminton Europe Deputy General Secretary, Jimmy Andersen.

- I am extremely proud and pleased that we were able to conduct the European Junior Championships in Finland, especially for the sake of badminton and the young players who got the opportunity to play in this event.

Looking forward to now welcoming Europe’s top stars to the country, General Secretary of Badminton Finland, Ville Valorinta states.

- We are very excited to have been nominated as the host for the European Mixed Team Championships.
