On Thursday 3 December 2020, Badminton Europe organised a webinar for all BEC Members and Circuit Organisers.

The webinar was about how to organise an international badminton tournament during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tamara Geeraerts, Events Manager at Badminton Europe, shared some words to why they hosted this webinar.

- We received a lot of questions from our tournament organisers over the past months regarding their tournament in 2021. There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and whether or not they would be able to host their tournament. As we already had some tournaments taking place, there was a clear need to share good practices on how this was done and any support we could give our tournament organisers.

Sharing own experiences

During the webinar, eight different presenters shared their own experiences from hosting and attending tournaments during COVID-19.

- We talked about how to conduct COVID-19 testing on-site, how to communicate with all involved parties, how to create a safe COVID-19 bubble and how to get financial resources for your tournament when you cannot have any audience. We also shared the athlete's point of view, who are very eager to see tournaments happen again, and how BEC will support tournament organisers in the future, Tamara Geeraerts said.

- Overall, we received good feedback from the participants, who found it very interesting and useful. We had over 50 people attending the workshop live, even with participants from Africa, Pan America and Oceania, Tamara Geeraerts ended.
