Three ties – three wins. That has been the result for the Dutch team in qualification Group 3 for the 2021 European Mixed Team Championships.

The bronze medallists from the 2019 European Mixed Team Championships are ready to start the hunt for medals when the 2021 edition of the championships will take place in Finland in February.

On the opening day, the Dutch team beat Slovakia 4-1 and followed up with another 4-1 win, this time they faced the hosts Austria, on the second day of the qualification.

On the last day of the qualification, which is also the last competition day of 2020, the Dutch claimed another win and clinched the spot at the 2021 European Mixed Team Championships.

From 2-0 to 2-2
The Netherlands won the first two matches of the tie before the Czech Republic represented by Tereza Svábíková got her country on the scoreboard winning the women’s singles against youngster Nadia Choukri.

Just before the beginning of the women’s singles it was announced that the Dutch team had to withdraw from the men’s doubles due to a minor knee injury for Ties van der Lecq.

The result of the draw was that the standing of the tie before going into the women’s doubles was 2-2.

Deciding women’s doubles
The European Games 2019 gold medallist, Cheryl Seinen, and partner Debora Jille were big time favourites against the young Milova/Van Coppenolle from Czech Republic in the deciding women’s doubles, and at the end there was no doubt.

Seinen and Jille won in straight games and secured the group win for the Netherlands.

- We and the team had confidence that we could win this match. In the beginning it was a bit tight, but that is normal, and then we made the difference, Seinen said.

- We have a good team which is competitive, and we believe that we can go for a medal, Seinen and Jille added.
