The physical 2021 Badminton Europe Annual Delegates’ Meeting (ADM) has been cancelled. As in 2020, the ADM will be hosted virtually.
With the COVID-19 pandemic being part of the daily life for many around the world, we have all step-by-step learnt to adapt to the situation and we have also learnt that things do not always go according to plan.
A considerable change for 2021 was decided at the Board of Directors meeting on 26 January 2021, where it was decided to cancel the physical 2021 ADM and instead host the second virtual Badminton Europe Annual Delegates’ Meeting.
- I really wanted to see everybody again but with COVID-19, unfortunately, continuing to spread and with the travel restrictions we see, the Board of Directors do not believe that hosting a physical meeting is possible, Badminton Europe President, Peter Tarcala stated.
A “new normal”
It will be the second consecutive year where the ADM will be held virtually.
- Unfortunately, the virtual ADM is the "new normal".
- It will be another "screen" ADM and not the face-to-face meeting which I know that most – if not all - of us had been looking forward to. We have a strong community, and we work well together, but there is not much we can do about it, Tarcala said.
Interactive focus
The first ever virtual ADM took place in October 2020, and the President is pleased that the organisation now has some learnings which can be used for the meeting which will take place on 1 May 2021.
- Last year was the first time we did this, and I am sure this year it will be even better. We will have a focus on the more interactive elements of the ADM.
- But I will also be honest: I hope this will be the last virtual ADM in my time as the BEC President, Tarcala said.
