Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen will be part of the 2021 All England semifinals.
After some disappointing results in early 2021, the 2019 European champions, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, have got things back on track.
In the opening round of All England 2021, the Danes took a solid win against countrymen Philip Illum Klindt and Mads Thøgersen, before yesterday beating Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, India, in three games. In the quarterfinals the Danes faced fellow Europeans, Christo and Toma Junior Popov from France.
One of the biggest results
The Danes dominated the opening game leading from the very first rally winning the game 21-10. In the second game, it was closer, but from 14-13 the Danes made eight consecutive point winning the game 21-14.
- Obviously it means a lot (to reach the semifinals). It is one of our biggest results ever, combined with the Thomas Cup and China Open title. It is really huge for us, Kim Astrup said.
- When the last rally was done, we thought it was so close although it was 10 and 14. They played a really good second game up to 14-13. We were behind, of course we felt the pressure. We took a small break and talked about what was important in the next few rallies. And that gave us 7 or 8 points in a row, Skaarup added.
The Danes will play either Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda (Japan) or Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge (England) in the semifinal.
