The Board of Directors of Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) today has taken the initial measure to declare the National Badminton Federation of Russia and the Belarusian Badminton Federation not in Good Standing, effective immediately. The reason for this decision is the invasion of Ukraine and the impact on badminton in Europe which BEC strongly condemned in a statement released over the weekend.

According to the BEC Rules this means that these Federations will not be able to participate at the upcoming BEC Congress to be held in Malta from 8-10 April 2022.

Furthermore, these Federations shall not be eligible for funding or any other support from BEC.

In respect to players from these Federations competing in International Competitions, BEC has opened a dialogue with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and will work cooperatively with them in this regard in line with earlier statement from BEC.

The BEC Board of Directors will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves and will reconvene during the week and at regular intervals as required to consider additional restrictions, in particular, around activities organised by BEC.

The National Badminton Federation of Russia and the Belarusian Badminton Federation will remain not in Good Standing until the BEC Board of Directors revokes the decision.
