This week, Luxembourg is hosting the BWF/BEC Coach Education Level 1 Course. Here is what the coaches and the staff had to say about their first day.

18 participants from 12 different countries — Cyprus, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, Monaco, Bulgaria, Hungary, Spain, and the Netherlands — have met today in Findel, Luxembourg, for what will be our first Coach Education Course of 2022.

From 5-8 May, the participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of coaching in what is the first of the four BWF coaching levels. The mix of in-class and on-court sessions will prepare those undertaking the course to become an internationally recognised accredited BWF Level 1 Coach.

An enthusiastic group of new coaches
The course got started with an introductory lesson where the main guidelines were presented. Participants got the chance to get to know each other thanks to the ice breaker. Tutor of the course Craig McCourtney is happy to be back for yet another course.

- I am delighted to be here delivering another course for BEC. It is great to see new coaches exchanging knowledge and skills, and learning from each other over the week in Luxembourg, McCourtney said.

The learning journey has already started for everyone involved, as the tutors showed a model lesson as a first task in order to get important key points in delivering a session. The participants also had to undertake a group task about coaching principles. Main Tutor of the course Alan McIlvain, who is very much enjoying the facilities, is also happy with the participants’ willingness to learn.

- It is fantastic to be in Luxembourg. We have great facilities and also such an enthusiastic bunch of new coaches. I am sure it will be an awesome course, McIlvain added.

After some very thorough sessions and an intense day packed with new faces and new information, the participants have finished with their first performances on court. After a great start to the course, BEC Development and High Performance Officer Mari Carmen Casermeiro is positive about the valuable experience that this course will be for everyone.

- I am extremely happy with such a big group of coaches and their proactivity on and off court. I am very looking forward to seeing how they enjoy these days in such outstanding facilities that our host, the Luxembourg Badminton Federation, has provided us with, Casermeiro stated.
