Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) would like to wish the Fédération Monégasque de Badminton a happy 10th anniversary.

This year, the Fédération Monégasque de Badminton will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The Principality of Monaco is a small country of 2 square km, where the sport offer is however very wide. Even though it is an Olympic sport since 1992, it was not certain that badminton would find a place in Monaco’s sports landscape. This was however the case from the start and the Federation was created just 2 years after the first (and only) club was established, to establish the place of badminton on the national level and on the other hand to represent Monaco on the international scene.

However small, Monaco has great expectations and ambition for the sport and aims at participating at international competitions in the future. To achieve that goal, the emphasis has been placed from the beginning on the training and education of young players. The Federation is also actively participating in schools, as badminton is part of the PE program and by organizing summer training camps.

A decade can feel both a like a long and very short time. The current President Sylvie Bertrand acknowledges that the Federation is still developing with already a good background. The country’s size itself allows the implementation of measures and projects quite quickly, which is an advantage to getting more visibility and developing the sport.

The Fédération Monégasque de Badminton also hosts every year 1 or 2 national level tournaments in collaboration with the PACA League (regional league from the Southeast of France). Sylvie Bertrand emphasizes their ambition to go even further, and the next step would be the organization of an international tournament. Together with Cyprus and Malta, they are the co-creator of a Tournament of Small States of Europe, which unfortunately was stopped by the pandemic. But the project is far from forgotten.

All this has been made possible by the connections and relationships forged in the past 10 years with the various players, staff, and volunteers of the sport.

Badminton Europe wishes the Fédération Monégasque de Badminton a happy anniversary and looks forward to pursuing this fruitful cooperation.
