During the badminton tournament Yonex Latvia International 2022, a practical seminar for new and already known international level umpires, will be held in Jelgava, Latvia, from August 31 to September 4.

There will be a theoretical lecture on Wednesday, August 31, but the practice will be on the courts during the badminton tournament. Each new umpire will be assessed and individually consulted. Only main pre-requisites are the knowledge of Rules of the game. The seminar will be led by Gunārs Lūsveris, a BWF certified umpire.

“This is a great opportunity for new umpires to have their first international experience abroad. It is like a previously missing intermediate stage between the national experience and the first experience in the world ranking tournament and starting to participate in the European badminton umpire developing process,”  Gunārs Lūsveris explains the relevance of the seminar.

The participants of the seminar will be more employed in the qualification matches and the first rounds, keeping the target to umpire up to the finals.

The conditions for the seminar participants and the other umpires of the tournament are the same and all of them will work together as the Technical Officials team.

The organizers will pay for the accommodation at Hotel “Senlīči”. Umpire will be expected to share a room with a colleague. Meals will be provided. Breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner in the sports hall. Umpires will be provided also with regular coffee and snacks.

The tournament traditionally hosts an official opening ceremony with a photo session of the technical officials on Friday; a social event on Saturday; prize for umpires of the final games; sponsorship prize, a T-shirt. There will also be an opportunity to play badminton on tournament courts. New this year: all Umpires of the tournament will receive special tossing coin.

Travel to Riga, Latvia is at the umpire’s own expense. The organizer will provide the transport between Riga International Airport and Jelgava. The offers of cooperation partners will be published on the tournament website page “Transport”, including offers to travel to and from Latvia.
