Romania and Portugal celebrate their first gold medals at European U15 Championships while Türkiye wins one and Denmark the remaining two titles.

The European U15 Championships in Ibiza, Spain, came to an end with an emotional finals day that had many youngsters in tears of joy after winning the first European title of their young careers.

Especially the first-ever medal for Romania at European Championships of all ages had Daria-Irina Gherasim and Cristina Maria Sirbu in tears. They won their women’s doubles final 21-16 21-23 21-16 over Elifnur Demir and Zeynep Berre Ocakoglu from Türkiye.

In men’s singles, Portugal’s Tiago Berenguer continued his impressive run and beat Arthur Tartranov from France 21-14 21-11 in the final. “I was looking forward to this tournament for a long time. Two to three years, totally focused on this tournament, to come here and be in my best possible shape, to be able to compete with the best players in Europe”, said Berenguer and admitted: “It still doesn’t feel real, it´s an indescribable emotion, I can’t explain it. I’m very proud to win the medal for Portugal, it’s ours.”

After losing the women’s doubles finals, the Turkish team still had one chance to grab a gold medal in Ibiza. Aleyna Korkut put on a strong fight against Leana Laurent from France in women's singles. After two intense games and 35 minutes, Korkut converted her match point to win 21-18 21-19. She also burst into tears in the moment of victory.

The remaining two matches were each a clash of two Danish pairs. In mixed doubles, Jens Andersson and Athene Lyduch Thornild proved to be the stronger pair today. They never really let their opponents find a way into the match and won over Mikkel Eilersen Bouet and Eline Landsvig 21-13 21-11 in just 20 minutes.

Jens Andersson added another gold to his repertoire in men’s doubles, where he also was able to win the final alongside Aske Rømer Roslyng. The two Danes could triumph over their fellow countrymen Mikkel Eilersen Bouet and Frederik Hinding 15-21 21-14 21-15.
