World Number One Viktor Axelsen is suffering from a leg injury, as reported by Danish broadcaster TV 2 SPORT.

There is less than one week left for the Denmark Open to start, as it will be taking place 18 to 23 October in Odense. Viktor Axelsen, a native of the city, is the reigning champion of the Super 750 tournament and is the clear favourite to take the title again this year.

As announced on the Danish star’s social media, he welcomed his second child just last week. This joyful event could have given him an extra boost for his upcoming home tournament. However, he is now facing a setback just days away from the biggest event in his home country.

Danish broadcaster TV 2 SPORT has reported that Axelsen is suffering from a leg injury which has kept him from training. The news channel did not get any more details about the injury, but Axelsen is still hoping to be ready in time:

“It is obviously not ideal, but I hope and believe that I will start training at the end of the week. I still believe that I will be able to play, and I'm doing everything that I can to get ready”, said Axelsen to TV 2 SPORT.

The Dane would be facing Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in his first match at the Denmark Open, a rematch of the World Championships final in which Axelsen took the title with a win in straight games.
