After a few weeks without World Tour tournaments all top players meet again in Odense for the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 Event.

Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Lohau got the first win for the European side in the 2022 edition of the Denmark Open. The European Champions beat Yong Jin and Shin Seung Chan from South Korea 21-11 21-18. “We didn’t know what to expect after a long training period. But we were happy to step on court again. It was a lot of fun today”, recapped Mark Lamsfuss.

In a European clash between Carolina Marin and Mia Blichfeldt, the Spanish walked off as a winner. Marin won 21-18 21-14 extending her head-to-head against Blichfeldt to 4-1. It was their first match-up after facing each other in the Denmark Open 2018, where Blichfeldt took her only win over Marin so far.

In men’s singles, Rasmus Gemke was the only European winning his first round today. He beat Kenta Nishimoto from Japan 21-18 21-14. Mark Caljouw Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, and Nhat Nguyen all lost their matches. But with Viktor Axelsen, Anders Antonsen and Toma Popov Junior there are three more Europeans starting into the tournament tomorrow.

Mølhede/Bay beat world’s number one

The upset of the day was loudly celebrated by Lasse Mølhede and Jeppe Bay after beating the current number one of the men’s doubles world ranking, Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi from Japan. “Right now it feels pretty amazing. We are just really happy with this win. It’s hard to imagine right now actually”, said Mølhede right after the match. The Danes won 21-15 21-14 and had the home crowd on their feet after converting the match point.
