Prior to the 2023 BEC Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan, the president of the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation, Dr. Taleh Ziyadov, and Badminton Europe General Secretary Brian Agerbak shared their excitement about the upcoming event.
The 2023 BEC Congress will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 21 and 22 April and will be a great opportunity for all Members to connect, learn, share, and discuss the future of badminton in Europe.
In a press conference leading up to the event Dr. Taleh Ziyadov and Brian Agerbak were talking about the upcoming event and future collaborations between the organisations.
"Seeing this event allocated to Azerbaijan indicates that Europe trusts us and knows at what level sports events are organised in our country", said the president of the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation, Dr. Taleh Ziyadov.
The motto of the Congress is inclusive badminton. "Last year we implemented a number of measures in this direction together with the Dost Center for Inclusive Development and Creativity the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice. Simultaneously, we implemented the Shuttle Time Azerbaijan project involving more than 1000 schoolchildren and 400 teachers in more than ten regions of our country", added Dr. Ziyadov.
Azerbaijan is willing to grow badminton on every level, starting with Shuttle Time programs in schools but also including the highest level of competition.
Badminton Europe General Secretary Brian Agerbak was thanking the hosts for their kind welcome and is looking forward to a well organised Congress as well as future collaborations with the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation:
"I see this federation as one of the most progressive federations that we have. There is a lot of potential and I see there is a lot of ambition and strategic will to take this sport really far", said Agerbak.
Baku will be welcoming all Congress participants today already. The informal gathering in the evening will set the stage for some intense days and will be an opportunity for everyone to greet and get to know each other.
