The 32nd edition of the VICTOR China Open 2023 will take place in Changzhou, China, from September 5 until September 10 at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium.

The HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament will be the first for many following the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2023 last month and a chance for many to gain valuable points in the race to Paris 2024.

Expecting to make up for his unexpected loss in the World Championships quarterfinals, Viktor Axelsen will look to enter the competition strong against Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo. For Carolina Marin, the deception of missing out on her fourth gold medal should give her enough stamina to push past Wen Chi Hsu of Taiwan.

Other European players featured at the China Open 2023 include Dane Mia Blichfeldt, who takes on reigning world champion An Se Young in the first round. In addition, there will be an all-European match-up in the first round as Scotsman Kirsty Gilmour faces Yvonne Li of Germany. In the men’s category, the Popov brothers from France as well as World Championships bronze medalist Anders Antonsen are set to compete.

Unfortunately for our European double’s contenders, they are faced with very difficult opposition from the get-go. Recent MD silver medalists in Copenhagen, Astrup/ Rasmussen, will be facing top-seeded Indonesian pair Alfian/ Ardianto, while Christiansen/ Bøje will be taking XD winners Seo/ Chae of Korea.

The schedule for the week is as follows:

Tuesday, September 5: Preliminary rounds
Wednesday, September 6: Preliminary rounds
Thursday, September 7: Preliminary rounds
Friday, September 8: Quarterfinals
Saturday, September 9: Semifinals
Sunday, September 10: Finals
