As the group stage of the TotalEnergies BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2024 unfolds in Chengdu, China, the quarter final lineup is taking shape. Denmark have secured their advance in both the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup.

In the Thomas Cup, today's first session saw England facing a tough challenge, losing 0-5 to India and missing their chance to progress to the knockout stage. This follows a similar defeat against Indonesia on Saturday. The team is set to play Thailand on Wednesday, currently at the bottom of Group C with England.

Germany also faced a formidable first opponent, losing 0-5 to Japan. Despite their defeat on Saturday against Chinese Taipei, 1-4, the German team showcased strong performances, with all men's singles matches extending to three games, and Daniel Hess/ Marvin Seidel securing a victory against Lee Jhe-Huei/ Yang Po-Hsuan.

In Group B, Czechia also experienced a tough day, losing 1-4 to Chinese Taipei after a defeat to Japan in their first match. Jiří Král managed a hard-fought win in three games against Wang Tzu Wei in the second men's singles match. This leaves a match between Czechia and Germany on Wednesday, with both teams in the last two spots in Group B, neither advancing to the next stage.

The Danish teams did not play today but have shown strong performances in earlier matches. In the Thomas Cup, the Danish men’s team secured two 5-0 victories against Algeria and Hong Kong, remaining undefeated. They face Malaysia tomorrow, which is also undefeated, to compete for the top position in Group D.

Similarly, in the Uber Cup, the Danish women’s team remains undefeated with 5-0 wins against the USA and Mexico. They are set to face Korea in their final group match, where both teams have already secured spots in the knockout stage.

Both Danish teams are the only European teams assured of advancing to the quarter finals, but other European teams will have one more match in Chengdu to conclude their experience in this grand team event.

Looking forward to tomorrow's European matches:
  • Uber Cup: Korea vs Denmark at 3:30am (CEST)
