Another action-packed week

The DAIHATSU Indonesia Masters 2025 started today – the third tournament in the Asian leg of this start to the year. Running until Sunday, the event will give us another great week of badminton action.

Today's highlights included some Europeans who fought through tough matches in the qualifiers to reach the main draw. Keisha Fatimah Azzahra clinched her spot after a hard-fought win against Indonesia's Ruzana Ruzana. Azzahra, 21-17, 16-21, 21-19. The 21-year-old player representing Azerbaijan now faces a daunting challenge against Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong, last week's India Open runner-up, in her next match.

In another close qualifier, Ireland's Nhat Nguyen defeated Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen, 21-15, 19-21, 21-19. His victory sets up a clash with world number five, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, in the main draw. 

In one of the first matches of the main draw, an all-European clash in the women's doubles saw Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova/Yevheniia Kantemyr narrowly defeat the Danish duo Amalie Cecilie Kudsk/Signe Schulz, 23-21, 23-21.

Also in the women's doubles main draw, Poland's Paulina Hankiewicz/Kornelia Marczak won a three-game match against Malaysia's Lai Pei Jing/Lim Chiew Sien 23-21, 15-21, 21-18.

The main draw continues tomorrow. Polina Buhrova is also competing in women’s singles, and will face Malaysia’s Karupathevan Letshanaa. In doubles, Mads Vestergaard/Christine Busch will take on Yuta Watanabe/Maya Taguchi, while Jones Ralfy Jansen/Thuc Phuong Nguyen will face Marwan Faza/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata. Another highlight wil be the return of Anders Antonsen, who skipped the India Open last week and is now set to face Ng Ka Long Angus in the first round in Jakarta.
