The tournament in India features several Europeans on the participant list, including Mads Christophersen from Denmark, Gianna Stiglich from Italy, Rory Easton/Lizzie Tolman from England, Rory Easton/Alex Green from England, Christian Faust Kjær/William Kryer Boe from Denmark, and Julien Maio/Lea Palermo from France.
It has not been an easy tournament for the Europeans. Despite several singles players and pairs being seeded to go far, they have faced early exits.
Today in the quarterfinals, the young Danish top-seeded men’s doubles pair, Christian Faust Kjær/William Kryer Boe, lost to a Chinese pair, thus exiting the tournament.
The only remaining European hope is the French mixed doubles pair Julien Maio/Lea Palermo. In today’s quarterfinal, they saved a match point in the third set and ended up winning the match 18-21, 21-18, 22-20 against a young Chinese pair. Tomorrow, in the semifinals, Maio/Palermo will have to overcome another young Chinese pair in the hope of going all the way.
