Greg and Jenny Mairs’ fairytale run at All England ended in the quarterfinals — but they bow out with their heads held high, having proven they can compete with the world’s best. The match against South Korea’s Lee/Chae ended 21-19, 21-14, in a game that could have tilted in the English pair’s favor if luck had been on their side.
When asked if they’ve fully come to terms with this being the end of their international career, Greg admitted:
"Probably not quite sunk in yet, but that reception at the end was amazing."
Behind them lies a remarkable career, with 9 international titles and countless appearances for the English national team. And if it had to end, the couple is thrilled that it ended this way.
Greg shared his feelings:
"It is the end of our international career, and what better way to go out than here — our best performance ever, two of our best wins ever, on that stage. It’s phenomenal."
What comes next is still uncertain, but one thing is for sure: Greg and Jenny will be spending a lot more time in front of the camera, growing their YouTube channel Badminton Insight and continuing to inspire the global badminton community.
"We are so excited to spend more of our time dedicated to our videos, to hopefully help and inspire lots more people. As Jenny said, for me it is so special when we have people meeting up, becoming friends through the community — it is absolutely incredible, and we want to devote all our time to doing that."
Jenny added with a big smile:
"You will probably see more of us now that we’ve stopped."
We wish Greg and Jenny Mairs a happy retirement from international badminton and all the best in the future.
